Queens is the borough in which JFK Airport is situated, so it’s no huge surprise that the parrots are active in that borough.
Nests have been spotted on the stadium light poles at an unnamed ball field just South of Jamaica Avenue between 202nd and 204th Street in the Hollis section of Queens. Parrots have also been spotted at Charles Park in Howard Beach.
Numerous parrots can also be seen in the neighborhood of Whitestone, Queens. Their colony may have originated in a nest in Frances Lewis Park. This nest was destroyed in a storm and the parrots moved uphill and inland. Their nests frequently occupy utility poles in this areas.
